In Girl Scouts, we are given the opportunities to earn many amazing badges and awards, such as the Silver Award. It is the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn. A Cadette is a girl in the 6th, 7th or 8th grade. The Silver Award Project can be done as an individual or as a small group (2-4). Each Cadette is expected to contribute at least 50 hours to the project. The project is to be girl-led, but adults can advise and assist when necessary. Before you start your Silver Award project, you have to complete a journey in the Cadette level and a take action project. A journey and a take action project change the world in some way or another. Last but not least, in order to complete the Silver Award, the project must make a sustainable impact or have a long-term solution.
Here is the summary of steps to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award:
1. Complete a Cadette Journey.
2. Take the Highest Award and Silver Award trainings (both for adults and cadettes)
3. Build Girl Scout Silver Award team (1 to 4 girls).
4. Identify issues and root causes.
5. Explore the community.
6. Pick the Take Action project.
7. Develop the project.
8. Make a sustainable plan and put it into motion.
9. Reflect, share the story, and celebrate.
