Eleanor
Hello! My name is Eleanor. 🙂 I am a Girl Scout Cadette of Troop 31602. As of 2022, I am in 7th Grade. I enjoy, writing, drawing, music, and just about any creative outlet. My favorite part of this project was donating the TNR supplies, knowing that the supplies will be able to help more community cats. From this Silver Award, I deepened my knowledge of community cats and TNR. It was surprising to learn that you needed a towel to cover the trap after the community cat is caught. Seeing everything move and strange people coming to pick you up while being stuck inside a metal cage is terrifying for the cats. The towel calms the frightened cat down by making them feel like they’re a in a dark, secure place. One of the most challenging parts of this Silver Award was creating the website. It was such a struggle to fully learn how to work with WordPress. However, once we grasped the controls and buttons, we were able to create this website. 😀 As much as I want to talk about myself, this project would have never been possible without some very important people. This Silver Award would have never been imaginable in the first place without Ms. Linh, Ms. Selvia (my mom), Ms. Ann Morrison replying to our inquiry for possible partnership, Ms. Sarah Wood for guiding us throughout our project, and of course my lovely partner Ellie. :)) I want to also thank the community for making the fundraiser possible by purchasing the hair ties, and my friends and family for supporting us. It feels almost surreal that this chapter of my life is over. We had Silver Award meetings nearly every Wednesday at 7 pm since October 2021. This Silver Award project became part of my daily life, and it feels crazy to me that moving forward my Wednesday nights are going to be free. As bittersweet as it is to tie up the lose ends of this project, I am forever grateful to be able to present this to you, dear viewer. Hopefully, our website and videos will provide more insight into TNR. ❤

Ellie
Hello and thank you for checking out our website! My name is Ellie, and I am currently a sixth grader and a first year Girl Scout Cadette (in the year 2022). Some of my favorite hobbies are dancing, hanging out with friends, reading, and drawing. I also love being in Girl Scouts. It gives me opportunities to meet new friends and help my community, such as this Silver Award Project. The best part about this project was making the hair ties and using our earned funds to donate supplies towards the TNR department of Ohlone Humane Society (OHS). Upon doing this project, I have learned many useful information regarding the TNR process and community cats. For example, female cats take 3 days to heal after they are spayed, while male cats take 1 day to heal after they are neutered. This crucial information is important, because we do not want to release the community cats too early to their original habitat. They are more susceptible to injury or infection. Our Silver Award Project would have not been possible without the help of some individuals. I would like to thank OHS, especially Ms. Sarah Wood. She guided us through the whole TNR process and provided ample resources about TNR and community cats, such as giving us brochures. I would also like to thank our customers who purchased the hair ties. Without their support, we wouldn’t have the funds to buy the TNR supplies for a donation. A quick shout out to Ms. Diane Shaw for accepting our donations, and giving us a quick tour of her beautiful backyard. Also, a big thank you to Ms. Selvia and Ms. Linh, our parent volunteers (and moms) from the troop. They spent numerous hours helping us get through this huge project. So thank you, thank you! Last but not least, my teammate, Eleanor. You made this project fun and enjoyable. I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Eleanor and I spent over half a year on this project, and now it has come to an end. We hope our hard work paid off by spreading awareness about TNR and community cats.
